Robo Calls!

Aren’t they the most aggravating thing ever? I know they have a job to do. I know most of the people working really just need a job. But dang, they can be rude, overwhelming and just plain harass you to death over the phone. Here are the 5 things I do. I went from 2-3 calls a day to 1 or 2 a week. Yeah, I know, the things I did listed below are not the things they tell you to do. However, it’s working for me.

Before you take into account the things I’ve done, try the most important thing first, make sure you have visited donotcall.gov  for more information or call 1-888-382-1222 to have your phone number added to the “Do Not Call Registry”. If that doesn’t work, try my way and let me know. What is there to lose. A few minutes. That’s it!

If you have time, talk to them.  They usually start off by asking who you are. Once you confirm your identity, they begin reading a script really fast.
  • Listen to hear if they are calling from a recorded line
    • Most will call on a recorded line
    • You need a recorded line so that someone else besides the person on the other end will hear you on the replay
  • Cut them off and start talking back – be nice but talk loud
  • Ask them what company they are from
    • You need this information in order to know if it’s the same people calling every day.
    • If you don’t know who they are, you can’t keep track of them
  • After you know who you are, ask them if they know the following:
    • You have received more than one call a day for awhile
    • You have asked to be removed from the call list
    • You feel you are being harassed, etc
  • Keep talking, don’t let them get a word in
    • Repeat over and over anything  these things listed above
    • Make sure you are making true statements ok?(disclaimer)
  • Know the laws in your state. Check the things  above to see exactly what things they are not allowed to do
  • If call back is allowed, right after the call, I call back and ask them to remove me from my their list. Most of them seem to remove me as soon as they realize they won’t get a word in. I assume, it’s bad for them to not be able to talk to a customer. It’s easier for them to remove me so that they don’t miss and call them me again. Who wants to be stuck with me right? If you have some favorite things that you do to stop robo calls and spammers, hit the comments, help me out and tell me what they are.  Thanks!
