Come On. Which One. Cash or Credit Card?

Is it better to travel with cash or credit card. Do you want to know? Ok, I bet I have an answer.
I have lived outside of the US for many years and I have also taken many many trips all over the world. One of the questions many people ask over and over is, “should I take cash with me? Dollars, I mean.”

My answer. Well yes, yes you should. But – you should also have a good credit card with you too. Why? Well see. There are many reasons. First and foremost some countries just don’t want your American money. Yep, I said it. They don’t want it, can’t spend it and it’s no good there.

In the meantime, here are a few things to know:

* Most Caribbean countries appreciate and will take the American dollar.  Why, because many times, the American dollar is worth more then their currency

 * Many banks in other countries have ATMs that have English as an option. You put in your card and out comes their currency

* Take at least 20 USD $1.00 bills with you upon arrival in a new country. Many countries will take the dollar as a tip. But check before you go to confirm this yourself.

* Take A credit card with you that is NOT connected to your main personal bank account and preferably not a debit card. It’s easier to put a credit card transaction on hold than to stop a thief from emptying the cash from your bank account using your debit card.

Are you planning a vacation soon? I hope this helps!
